Advert Analysis

The Stereophonics look Calm and carry on album cover shows , the water rising, yet they don't care they are going to "keep calm and carry on" they look nice and relaxed to suite the mood of the album. This could also have a reference towards the world war in which soldiers would need to keep calm to land, this matches the scene with the beaches and the sea. The text is thin but black where the background is light highlighting the text. The image does not make much reference to the genre but with stereophonics having such a big name the image to them does not have to entirely relevant to them. The audience is more aimed towards a stereophonics fan or an older audience with the colour scheme and backing photo.
The Gorillaz focus on the cartoony effects as their band image and as a result of this the plastic beach album cover is in cartoon its the world of the gorillaz. The Gorrilaz are very well known so much imagery is not needed to know who they are yet you can work out from this poster that they are a very cartoon style and electronic band, this poster would also be quite similar to a electronic band such as pendulum. The text being white ensures this is highlighted clearly from the image. The target audience would normally be teenagers or a younger audience with the style and brightness of the image.
The advertisement for foo fighters says it all FF due to the large fan base they already have, the image shows the words greatest hits it doesnt really need much to grab attention. At the bottom of the advertisement it says including best of you,the pretender and time like these , this alerts the fans as they are favourites, also the band show a new song wheels.people will by the album just to listen to the new song. The text is in black where as the background in white highlighting the reader to the info about the album but with it being Foo Fighters the band is very well known so much contrast to other people is not needed.

Here the beatles are the height of the career in the picture , the bottom right of the advertisement shows the record company apple, the advertiement is trying to sell the classic beatles singles. it has all the single covers underneath. The background being in white highlighting the title the image and the album covers at the bottom of the page attracts immediate attention towards the reader and highlighting them as key areas of the advert. The target audience would generally be an older audience with the Beatles main appeal being from that era.

Survey Of Expectations

Here we have conducted a survey and asked people of what they would expect in a music video in the similar genre and way of fall out boy, we had several similar responces of skinny jeans, dark colours and a mix of performance and narrative.

1) What clothes would you expect to see in a music video of a band similar
to the genre of fall out boy?
2) What type of lighting and colours would you expect to see in a music

3) Do you prefer a narrative or performance based music video or mix of both?
4) Would you expect to see a narrative or performance based or mixed
music video of a band similar to the genre of fall out boy?

1) ermm "skater" type clothes (i think),
2) bright colours
3) i prefer a nice mixed music video;)
4) and i would expect to see a mixed from a fall out boy - type band

2) generally dark
3) mix of both
4) performance based

1) Darkish clothes, eyeliner etc.
2) darkish

1) They've got a nerdy rocker look going on, bar the bassist.
2) I'd say darker colours, with the lighting mainly drawn on the band.
3) A Mix.
4) Mainly narrative, occasionally cutting to performance.

Target Audience

The target audiance i am trying to aim for will be for early to late teens. I am chosing this audiance becasue there is a lot of different music types that aims at them and would fit perfectly. The music genre we have chosen is Emo, the basic image of and emo is to do with skinny jeans, band t shirts, hoodies, his is a plain dress sense. In some cases, the male band members style there hair in different styles such as spikes. Also males wear make up is to be different and to get a reaction.

Typical Conventions/Band Image

Fall out boys music, image and persona has changed over the past 8 years, the typical emo convention has been fluent throughout.
For example in one of the bands first music videos 'a little less sixteen candles a little
more touch me' the band wear dark colored tight clothes, this is a typical convention
of emo bands and has almost became a calling card for the band.
The band also experiment with unique, individual hairstyles, i believe they do this to get a reaction out of people and to cause controversy, which after all is what emo is all about.

Band Image

Band Image Hairstyles-Traditional band hairstyles are long and uncontrolled, however pop/punk hair is the exception, most styles very in thickness and length but normally consist of choppy layers, a sweeping fringe and the odd spike or two, these elements are sometimes combined with brightly coloured highlights to give a rebellious look to the style.

Body-Although there is no rule on what to wear for the pop/punk genre I believe that plain clothes with not much colour in them would suit best, such as black, white, grey, dark purple etc these should be the primary colours and the more brighter colours such as red, blue, yellow etc should ideally be secondary colours.

Jeans- In most cases dark skinny jeans would be the obvious choice however there are alternatives to these such as coloured or patterned skinny jeans as well as baggy jeans or possibly shorts.

Shoes-Most band wear well known alternative makes such as converse, vans, DC’s etc, these makes would probably work best for creating an alternative look

Initial Ideas

Here showing are scanned images of our initial ideas for our original 3 songs that we chose, fall out boy was chosen over the other two with fall out boy's i don't care being a much faster song allowing us to have more variety of shot compared to the other two song. It also was the only song on the list that wouldn't be mostly focusing on the narrative of the songs and would give us a nice mix.

9 Shot Annaylsis

Simple Plan - Save You

Here shown in a dark warehouse lit up are the band at the start of the video starting to play the song. The focus of the shot is to highlight each member of the band.

Here shown are people who are laying down as if dead (as according to the song and its lyrics of i wish i could save you) their dark clothing highlights this as the floor area around them is much lighter than the people.

Here shown is a meat shot of the lead signer who is the star image of the video as-well as the focus being on him throughout the song with it being wrote by him and with his connection through it with his brother having cancer.

This shot shows how the people who were actin dead are waking up or coming to life as the lighting level becomes much higher and brighter.

This shot is powerful as a close up with the emotion being shown with giving a helping hand to those with cancer.

The meat shot showing on this image is one of many showing cancer survivors with the brightest of lights throughout the song to represent the mood of this scene as does the light throughout the song.

This shot is one of the few highlighting another member of the band after drawing some star image away from the lead singer as the bassist does some backing vocals, as according to the mood of the song he is also dressed in dark clothing/

The shot is a very powerful and happy one highlighting the star image's references to the song showing him i his brother and dad with the bright light gives the ending of the song a happy feel.

Simple Plans Music Video Save You was made as a music video for those that are suffering from cancer to gain money for cancer research, this shot although being text os a powerful message for the audience as it doesn't show little hints it just tells them about the bands references to cancer asking for help
